Hello my friends,
Spring has sprung here in the PNW and with the change in seasons comes the barrage of content centred around shopping, trends, and everything you NEED to buy in order to be stylish this season. I hope to offer something different here.
I truly believe that the best way to connect to and develop your personal style is simply to WEAR YOUR CLOTHES. Get to know them, discover their secrets, find out what does and does not work for you, try to see things through new lenses and maybe even find some solutions for those pieces that weren’t working. One of my favourite tools to help with this exploration is the Outfit Relay.
The rules are simple. You must repeat at least one item that you wore yesterday in your outfit for today. It can be clothing, shoes, outerwear, accessories, jewelry, whatever you want, as long as you wore it yesterday.
I recently hit 10k followers on Instagram (woah) and hosted a 5 day Outfit Relay to celebrate. I invited you to join me in connecting to your personal style and getting creative with what you already have. Hosting an online challenge is always nerve wracking (will anyone join? did I explain it clearly?) and it made my heart so warm to see so many of you participating and playing with your clothes. I found myself eagerly anticipating everyone’s outfits each day and I kept track of all of the videos with a janky handwritten list in my journal.
One of my favourite things about this challenge is how easily you can adapt it to meet your energy levels/needs. Since outfit repeating is already something that is in my comfort zone, I decided to add some additional goals to the challenge for myself:
style pieces that I haven’t been reaching for (hello butter yellow coveralls)
play with layering (my biggest styling struggle)
repeat multiple items (brooches count okay!)
revisit some outfits from Spring ‘23 (and update as needed)
Here’s what I wore

I’m thrilled to report that I succeeded with all of my goals for the challenge (rare for me), and I loved how easy it was to adapt this relay to my lowered energy levels when my period struck me down mid-week.
Some observations from the relay:
Accessories really are the most powerful styling tool in my wardrobe- this is something I bang on about incessantly over on TikTok, but I really noticed it this week especially when I used accessories as my repeat items.
Having a defined colour story for my wardrobe has brought so much ease into getting dressed and I really noticed it this week. Almost all of the colours in my “baseline” palette were included in my outfits, and knowing that most of my wardrobe works together made repeating items that much easier (don’t worry, I’m planning to talk more about my personal colour story in an upcoming newsletter).
Personal Style Themes are still going strong. I see Take it Easy, Sporty Spice, and Taking it Personally very clearly reflected in these looks, and I hope to bring some Casual Romance back into the mix for Spring/Summer. LOTS of Personal Style Theme content here
Many of my Spring ‘23 outfits are still relevant for this year, and I’m looking forward to revisiting a lot of them with a few styling updates (should I do a Youtube video about it?).
This challenge helped to curb some of my Spring yearnings. I work so hard to not get swept away in the “add to cart” tidal wave that social media has become, but I often find myself feeling spendy at this time of year. The challenge had me feeling excited to shop my wardrobe and I hope to cling to that energy for as long as possible.
The reasons I love this particular challenge are many; it’s accessible to anyone and only requires what you already have, it can be easily adapted to meet your needs, it provides you with a jumping off point for your outfit each day, and it can lead you to seeing your pieces in new contexts, which is a valuable tool when you are discovering/deepening/expanding your personal style.
I absolutely loved this challenge for myself, but the highlight was truly being able to connect with so many of YOU! My goal for all of the work that I do online is to connect Style, Sustainability, and Community, and I feel like this challenge was the perfect way to do that. I will absolutely be hosting another Outfit Relay for Summer, but you don't have to wait until then to give it a try! This is truly something you can do any time, for any number of days.
Feeling stuck with what to wear? Repeat something from yesterday
Struggling to style a specific item? Try building 3 different outfits with it this week
Want to develop signature pieces? Wear them again and again
Feeling comfortable with the relay concept? Repeat two items (or three or four!)
Outfit repeating truly is the key to developing your personal style and a critical step in building a more sustainable relationship with your wardrobe. Your clothes are meant to be worn!
I’ve been wanting to launch this newsletter for months and this challenge was the perfect way to kick it off. I hope to offer more personal style insight, thrifting and clothing care tips, and I am always open to feedback about what YOU would love to see in the newsletter. Thanks so much for reading.
I’ll be back soon with more sustainable + attainable style for you

New reader here 🙋♀️ and I am so thrilled to find you! This post was shared because of something I wrote but this style relay is so brilliant!
I like this relay idea which puts a completely new for me slant on things, and connects clothing items in ways I haven’t considered.
