Hello my friends!
Have you ever wanted to peek into my closet and see ALL of my thrifted treasures? Do you find yourself scrolling for outfit inspiration but only really finding shopping inspiration? Do you have Summer travel plans coming up? Do you love wardrobe data? I HAVE SOMETHING FOR YOU!!
I’m thrilled to announce that I’ve joined the growing roster of stylists partnering with Indyx to offer digital styling services using the clothes already in your wardrobe!
My goal for all of the content I create is to encourage you to make more sustainable choices, support brands that align with your values, and spend time building a relationship with the clothes you already have, never to leave you feeling like you need to click “add to cart”. I always want you to feel inspired and empowered to shop your closet first, and I think Indyx is the perfect tool for this.
WHAT IS INDYX?
Indyx is a free app that allows you to digitally catalogue your wardrobe. Kind of like having the Clueless closet in your pocket (dream come true, right?). You can build outfits, track cost-per-wear, create capsules for packing/events, and connect with friends and stylists to gain insight into your wardrobe. I am decidedly not tech savvy, and I find the interface to be sleek and super user friendly.
HOW IT WORKS
First, you upload your wardrobe by either taking a photo of your items using the app, or adding a photo from your camera roll- The Indyx app removes the background for you for a seamless look. I would never lie to you- this is not a quick and easy task that you bang out in 30 mins, but it is SO worth the time and effort. Once you have your wardrobe catalogued, you can put together outfits and capsules, link the outfits you wear to a calendar to track your cost-per-wear, and even make your closet public for other users to take a peek. It feels like a personalized and grown-up version of paper dolls or Polyvore (for my fellow millennials).
I know that prepping, photographing, and uploading every item you own might seem daunting, I’m including tips on how to make it more manageable below!
HOW I USE IT
For me, getting dressed is always driven by my emotions and I rarely plan my outfits in advance. Don’t get me wrong- I had so much fun putting together outfits in Indyx while I was home sick all last week- but I think the primary way I’ll be using the app is retroactively logging my outfits each day to get a big picture view of my outfit patterns. I also love it for packing capsules! I originally downloaded Indyx before my trip to Copenhagen in January to help get my travel wardrobe organized, I loved being able to see everything I was bringing and how I could style the pieces in different ways.
HOW WE CAN WORK TOGETHER
As of today, I’m joining the roster of stylists offering services on Indyx! I’ll be offering The Lookbook, a set of 10 outfits made for you with my styling tips and insights! You’ll fill out a simple questionnaire to give me an idea of your style and your needs, upload your wardrobe to Indyx, and I’ll put together 10 outfits tailored to your unique style. Something I really love about this service is that you can opt to exclusively use items in your wardrobe OR you can request that I add a few suggestions for pieces you might want to add. For me this will be an opportunity to recommend secondhand treasures and pieces from sustainable brands and small businesses that I feel excited to support.
TIPS AND TRICKS- I’ll be sharing a full breakdown of this process in an upcoming Youtube video, but here’s a quick guide with some tips that I found helpful!
Work in batches- I did my wardrobe in sections and it made a huge difference. I set a timer for 30 mins and crunched out as many items as I could in one category (shoes, accessories, sweaters, etc). I found that 30 minutes was enough for almost all of my categories (button-up shirts took almost an hour, lol). I also found it was more efficient for me to take all of my photos first, then upload everything after.
Use E-comm images- The app allows you to take photos or upload from your camera roll, so I google searched and grabbed the e-comm image for any items that were available online. I found this especially helpful for shoes! Since 90% of my wardrobe is thrifted this wasn’t possible for a lot of my pieces, but it definitely saved some time and the images look so nice. I also grabbed generic images for simple things like white tee shirts, bike shorts, etc.
Take your time- It can be tempting to just slap your items down on the floor and snap a pic, but taking the time to ensure your garments look their best makes a huge difference in the quality of the image. I recommend steaming out big wrinkles, doing up buttons/zippers, tucking in armpit and crotch seams, and adding some ruching to flowy items like skirts/dresses. Like I said, I’ll be posting a YT video with more in depth tips soon (Two YouTube videos in one month? Who does she think she is?!)
I genuinely believe that the key to developing your personal style is to actually wear your clothes, and I think Indyx will be a valuable tool for anyone looking to connect with their personal style and make the most of what they already own. I’m really looking forward to adding this service to my list of offerings and I simply cannot wait to take a peek into your closets and put together some outfits for you!!

2. Hell yeah!
If you’re still working on the video, I’d also love to know what is helpful to add in the notes field of items, from a stylist perspective (can you see our item notes?) I’ve mostly been using it for me-made item details but was thinking about adding notes on the fit, etc.
