Hello my friends,
I’m back (finally) with another deep dive into a real client Lookbook! This time the client also booked a Personal Styling Session, so I’ll also include a few of the takeaways from our time together. Finding ways to share my client work with you in a way that is respectful of their privacy and also interesting for you as a reader is a delicate balance, and I really hope you enjoy this peek into the process. This client has requested to remain anonymous, but generously agreed to let me share her Lookbook with you :)
Client info:
Based in Seattle
Style keywords- Relaxed, Sporty, Organic, Playful, Polished
Professional but creative/casual work environment
Loves vintage/thrifting
Looking to elevate and bring a level of polish to everyday outfits without sacrificing ease, practicality, or personality
What she booked:
Combination Session- Personal Styling Session + Indyx Lookbook
We started with a one hour Personal Styling Session via Zoom where we:
identified her style goals
created shared language to describe her current and aspirational style
found solutions for pieces that she was struggling to style (dyeing, alterations, etc)
discussed styling techniques that will help make the most of the pieces she already owns
A few of the key takeaways from the session that were top-of-mind while making her Lookbook:
adding visual interest without relying on layering more garments
using juxtaposition to infuse outfits with personality
playing with proportion to create new silhouettes
finding creative ways to elevate simple, realistic outfits
transitional styling ideas for the coming season

The Indyx Lookbook
After our session I got to work on her Indyx Lookbook, creating 10 outfits to support the style goals we had discussed. I love doing these two services in tandem because it allows me to address specific concerns with tangible and wearable outfits that connect back to the style goals that we identified in our session.
Recommendations
Clients always have the option to request recommendations with their Lookbook (a few, a lot, or none at all), and this client asked for a few. When I’m including recommendations for clients I always focus more on the idea rather than the specific item, and for this client I focused on accessories to help elevate and add a personal touch to her outfits.

The Outfits
My client loves clothes and has an amazing collection of thrifted treasures, cool independent brands, and some really special vintage and designer pieces. I love how personal and playful her wardrobe feels and it was truly a joy to create these outfits for her.
This Comme Des Garçons skirt immediately caught my eye while cruising through my client’s Indyx wardrobe. I love that the folded over waistband detail is echoed in the strap of the shoes. I brought in the striped button-down for some crispness, with the sleeves rolled to highlight the Elsa Peretti bone cuff. Any of my client’s bags in her collection would work with this look, but I chose to show her how impactful a rich brown leather bag could be, especially with a fun charm keychain added.
For this look I really wanted to highlight my client’s Sporty and Playful keywords. The Proenza Schouler skirt is swishy and dynamic, and I love the way it picks up the red in this thrifted graphic tee. The chic shoes and jewelry and playful bag play up the tension created by pairing these offbeat pieces, and I suggested that she wear the cuff over top of the tee shirt sleeve for added visual interest. I also included a note to swap the bag for a plain black leather tote for a more pared back take on this look.
This is one of my favourite looks in the bunch! When putting together outfits for clients I always pay attention to the pops of colour they have in their wardrobe to see what combinations can be made. The apple green silk opera flats pair so beautifully with the red bag, and the combo makes this otherwise simple look feel a bit more punchy. My client and I talked a lot about proportions in our session, so I paired these culottes with a more oversized knit to play into some of the ideas we discussed.
I simply was not able to resist styling this incredible Tigra Tigra skirt. I wanted something simple and slouchy that my client could wear to work or on the weekend so I paired the statement skirt with a comfy, lived in vintage denim button-up. I recommended rolling or pushing up the sleeves and only doing up the middle few buttons to give the skirt lots of movement. The accessories are simple, and I offered a few swaps for shoe/bag combos to give my client ideas to expand on this outfit in the future.
I always encourage clients to bring out any items that they struggle to style during our session for us to troubleshoot together. These cobalt trousers were one of the items we looked at, so I made sure to also include them in the Lookbook so she had some clear visuals to connect to the ideas we had discussed in our session. Since one of my client’s goals was to add visual interest without necessarily adding more layers, we talked a lot about subtle print mixing and playing with colour.
This navy skirt is one of the other specific items my client asked me to style in her Lookbook. Her concern with the skirt is that it felt like a flat block of navy, so I suggested tying a scarf (or a striped button-up) around her waist to break up the colour and bring in some subtle print. I styled it with a graphic tee and clogs for a more casual feel, and added a striped bag for another hit of visual interest. This same formula could easily be made more polished by swapping the graphic tee for a knit or a lightweight long sleeve top.
Something cozy and pulled together for transitional weather. I love how harmonious this outfit feels with the texture of the sweater and the clogs balancing each other. The cropped sleeves on the sweater allow for the silver bracelet to have a moment, and the dark rinse denim adds just the right amount of polish. I included my recommended brown bag again to show how much depth can be added to a look when you incorporate mis-matched neutrals. This look would also work with a simple black leather tote, or even with a more punchy colourful bag.
I completed this Lookbook in the Summer, so there were a mix of looks for the present season and the coming Fall weather. I loved this breezy Salter House dress and wanted to show my client two different styling directions. I view accessories as the punctuation of an outfit, and it’s so cool to see how different the overall tone of the look is between the two options with only a couple of changes.
Nothing says transitional PNW outfit quite like a chunky knit + shorts + boots, and I was so excited to style these pieces together! The cozy knit and denim shorts have the perfect amount of tension, and I kept the accessories cohesive and simple with a little pop of personality in the form of a belt loop keychain.
One thing about me is I will be including a wildcard look in most Lookbooks. My goal with all of my Lookbooks is always to spark inspiration by helping my clients to see their pieces in new contexts. Even if the exact outfit I make doesn’t work for one reason or another, I want there to be at least an idea that my client can expand on and make their own. This outfit is all about juxtaposition, which is something my client and I talked a lot about in our session. The two different accessory options help to illustrate how you can change the tone of an outfit by dialling up either the tension or the harmony.
